Rise of the Planet of the Apes
The great debate of inequality is shown in this remake of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Homo sapiens, also known as the human race, are said to be evolved from apes. The closest thing to the human race are what they are called. Scientists say that the apes and the human race are only 0.6% different. We might as well call ourselves apes and apes might as well call themselves humans. Caesar, the main ape in the movie, was raised by humans and adapted well to the daily modern lives of humans. He acted like us and he dressed like us. To his family, the humans whom raised him, he was like them, nothing different. But to others, he was not one of them; he was seen as an animal, an animal that belonged with his own. Ripped apart from his family and contained in a cell with other experimental apes, Caesar saw the need to revolt and fight for his own freedom and his own type, the apes. We, the human race, don't like to be contained or discriminated on... so why must we do it to others? They may be apes but they're so similar to us. Some people believe that they human race is the most intellectual race there is but I beg to differ. Apes, us being evolved from them, are quite intelligent too. They can preform tasks that we deem to be impossible. So why must we look down on them just because they look different from us?
The apes didn't ask to be locked up in cells and used in experiments so why are we keeping them from freedom? They have the same rights as anyone/anything in this world to fight for their freedom. I mean, that's what we did. All the revolutions we went through, all the wars, all the causalities lost... and for what? For what rightfully belongs to us, our alienated rights to be free. This movie shows us a glimpse of what we might do in the future to races that we deem less superior to us. Which I find ironic because once upon a time we revolted to fight for our freedom. And when we achieved freedom, we made a pact that we would not be like the people that looked down at us and that we would not strip anyone of their freedom. Boy, I must say that we're hypocrites; we first did it to the Africans and I wouldn't be surprised if we did it to apes in the future.
